This election cycle has been brutal. It has been long (Longer for Obama), and contentious. I cannot comprehend the amount of stress the candidates are under. I think it would be fair to say, given the state of our nation, the next president will endure a unending series of stressful situations.
Can McCain make it through a 4 year term?
Imagine the world during a McCain presidency. Not Bush III, but McBush I:
A government with a seriously compromised Executive branch. (GOP in charge during crisis with a 72 year old ANGRY version of W)
A completely broken Legislative branch.
A broken economy (as I write this DOW is down 730 & change),
A resurgent Russia(Iran, North Korea ,Etc) and finally there is that pesky terrorism issue.
Is McCain @ 72 going to be able to handle all of this? If so how?
Now imagine he falls ill.
Sarah Palin is POTUS.
She has trouble handling the softball media of 2008, what happens when: "Putin rears his Head"? Only this time its for real, and she has "football"
Think of it this way, replace JFK with Sarah Palin during the Cuban missile crisis. Get the Idea?

Here is my advice for the last three debates: (1 VP, 2 remaining POTUS)
Turn OFF the TV after the debate, before the talking heads try to tell you who won and why.
Please make your own decisions!!!
We wring our hands, complain about the state of politics, and how inadequate our leaders are.
Truth is, this reflects poorly on the American voter.
Democrats think Obama won.
Republicans think McCain won.
Both parties released statements PREPARED days in advance of the debate, celebrating their victory.
If you watched Fox TV, McCain won.
If you watched MSNBC, Obama won.
The other media outlets I watched, talked endlessly in a loop, and kept repeating inane talking points
I heard ONE media outlet (With the best political ....) describe the ISSUES as minutia!!!
You get one vote, and one chance to let your voice be heard.
In world of endless media cycles and talking heads, independent thinking is becoming increasingly difficult.
If we continue to make our votes a mere reflection of group thought, democracy as we know it is lost.

Ignore the man behind the curtain
OK WE GET IT
The economy sucks, Banks are failing, and soon the sky is going to fall!!
But why is W on TV EVERY FRACKING Day? Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Bush-Hater, I just can't stand to watch the guy. His inability to articulate even simple messages bugs me, but listening to him during a crisis is exausting.
It also makes me very suspicious...
Are we in a crisis, or is a serious problem being painted as something more than it is? If so why and who profits from it?
It just doesn't smell right, and when I consider how close we are to the election, I wonder what is really going on here.I mean Bush wouldn't lie to us, or distort facts for some reason yet to be determined would he?
Oh yeah, he DOES do that occasionally.
About that smell, it reminds me of this guy, crap whats his name???? Got it, Karl Rove.
Lets see, most important election in a generation, and we seem to be having one meltdown after another. Of course that is WHY this is the most important election in a generation.
Contrary to popular belief, most Americans DO have reasonable attention spans, and won't fall for this political "Bait & Switch".
The sky is NOT falling, the end is NOT near, and life will go on.
We do have problems, they need to be addressed, and we have elected officials that will respond in a timely manner to these issues.
If they do not, or do so in a manner inconsistent with your beliefs and/or values hold THEM ACCOUNTABLE in November.

Whats funny is that Wimpy LOVED burgers,but was too cheap to pay for them. He was always looking to fleece poor Popeye for the cost of a burger,and Popeye the good guy that he is, usually ponied up for the cost of that burger.

Unfortunately you and I are Popeye, and Wimpy sounds a lot like our elected officials. We are paying for the most expensive "Burger" ever made. To add insult to injury; not only won't we get paid back for the burger, Wimpy and his hungry cohorts will "Dine & Ditch" sticking the next two generations with the tab.

Yep,$82,000, that is what each of us will owe the US Treasury by the end of next year, due to the enormous national debt. Even that figure requires us to be lucky enough to sell off the bad debt that Wimpy and his brilliant Wall Street cohorts have strapped us with.
Lets try this instead:
1. Seize ALL assets held by senior management of ANY entity We the People are being forced to subsidize.While we are at it, seize any remaining corporate assets as well.
2. Liquidate these assets and add them to the the 1 Trillion $ "Proposed" Wall Street slush fund. Do NOT under any circumstance give our money to those who created the problem.
3. Use those funds to pay off ALL outstanding mortgages in this order:
a)Any homeowner who has been fiscally responsible and is not in default
b)Homeowners who where victimized by predatory lenders
c)Homeowners whose ONLY residence has been or is going to be foreclosed
If our money is to be utilized, let us bailout main street, let Wall Street can fend for itself. They created the current mess, time for them to wallow in it. Maybe next time they decide to go all Gordon Gekko on US, they will dwell more on consequences and less on profit.
4. Fire the entire government (We get to do that this year people!!)And replace them with the the folks in step 3a. At the very least we know they can balance their checkbooks.
5. First order of business for newly elected officials: Constitutional amendment requiring a national balanced budget.
Can't pay for a war against some pesky dictator? Sorry it would be illegal to borrow OUR money to start one.
Gotta buy a neat new toy to blow up someone half a world away? Better have cash in hand!!

A government that "Pays as it goes" instead of trading the future our country for personal power or profit. I wonder what our founding fathers would think of our leaders today?

Guess we know what they would think, AND what they intended for this country. America was not founded to be a debtor nation.
